As Trump strikes at birthright citizenship, Americans – and Indians – look up 14th Amendment

Regardless of the status of parents, the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution bestows American citizenship on the child, with rare exceptions – such as children born to diplomats serving their country in the US. But broadly, the 14th Amendment holds that "all persons born or naturalized in the US, and subject to jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the US."
