Soon, New York may fine people for texting while walking

The bill, introduced by the State Senate and sponsored by Brooklyn Assemblyman Felix Ortiz, suggests a fine of $25 to $50 for those caught holding and looking at a phone while crossing the street. For subsequent offences within 18 months, guilty pedestrians could face fines up to $250. Similar laws have been also passed in Hawaii and California.
