US coronavirus cases rise by nearly 50,000 in biggest one-day spike of pandemic

Brazil is the only other country to report more than 50,000 new cases in one day. The United States reported at least 49,286 cases on Tuesday. More than half of new US cases each day come from Arizona, California, Florida and Texas, home to 30% of the country's population.
