Neera Tanden, Biden’s budget nominee, faces challenge to confirmation

Senator Joe Manchin announced Friday that he would oppose the nomination of Neera Tanden, President Joe Biden’s pick to lead the Office of Management and Budget, imperiling her prospects for confirmation in an evenly divided Senate. Tanden would need the support of at least one Republican senator in order to pass confirmation, with the vote of Vice President Kamala Harris needed to break a tie.
