Rejection of Black educator angers some Mississippi senators

Mississippi's Republican-led Senate has voted against confirming Robert P. Taylor as state superintendent of education. Reports suggest that Black Democrats believe the rejection is partly due to Taylor's race and his writing on Mississippi's racist history. The vote on Wednesday was mostly along party lines, with 31 Republicans voting against, and only five Republicans voting in favour of Taylor.
