Gang clash leaves at least 12 dead in Ecuador prison

Twelve inmates have been killed in a new clash between gangs at La Penitenciaria prison in the Ecuadorian city of Guayaquil, according to the SNAI prison agency. Ecuador's prisons have been plagued by violence since 2021 which have resulted in the deaths of hundreds of inmates. The situation is attributed to clashes between drug gangs fighting for control and territory.
