'Excited delirium': Why has California banned the term as a cause of death?

California has become the first US state to ban the official classification of "excited delirium" as a cause of death. The term, which has been used to explain deaths in police custody and disproportionately applied to communities of color, lacks scientific or medical credibility. It was never recognized by psychiatrists or mental health experts. The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) had endorsed it, but recently renounced its usage.
