Hughes Van Ellis, one of the last survivors of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, has passed away at the age of 102. Known as "Uncle Red," Ellis was a lead plaintiff in a reparations lawsuit against the city of Tulsa, seeking accountability for the massacre's aftermath. Ellis testified before the House Judiciary subcommittee in 2021, demanding reparations for survivors and descendants.
