US temperature plummets as artic blast threatens record-low chill

A frigid blast of air is sweeping across the United States, with nearly 250 million Americans experiencing unusually cold weather. Temperature records are at risk of being broken in several states, except for Florida. The cold front will reach its peak later this week, with temperatures dropping to single digits in the northern Plains and teens in the central and southern Plains. Morning lows in the southern Plains will dip into the 20s and 30s.
