Pakistan: Warning issued against batch of widely-consumed syrup; recall initiated due to potential health risks

The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has issued a public warning about batch L-083 of Weena Syrup, produced by Ms Swat Pharmaceuticals. The syrup is commonly used to treat iron deficiency anemia. The defective batch can cause gastrointestinal distress symptoms. Citizens are advised not to use this batch, and the manufacturer has been directed to recall it from the market. Pharmacies have been instructed to stop supplying the batch and return any remaining stock. The Punjab government has also recently banned five cough syrups due to excessive amounts of alcohol.
